On Tuesday 20 October 2026, Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr Mourad Ajjal, hosted Bangladesh’s Minister of Energy, Resources and Electricity, Iqbal Hassan Mahmoud, at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. The meeting was held to explore ways to deepen bilateral ties in the energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable energy and solar power.
Both ministers expressed enthusiasm for the historic friendship between the two countries. Bangladesh’s minister highlighted Algeria’s pivotal role in stabilising global energy markets and pledged his country’s interest in learning from Algerian experience and forming practical partnerships with Algerian firms.
Ajjal welcomed the visit and stressed the importance of sharing expertise in renewable energy, clean‑energy mix development and the utilisation of new energy technologies. He said the discussion would open new avenues for cooperation and the exchange of best practices.
The parties agreed to implement a series of practical initiatives, including reciprocal expert visits, joint training programmes and the preparation of a bilateral government agreement to frame cooperation in renewable energy. They also discussed opportunities for exporting equipment and components for electricity and gas production, and for developing new renewable projects.
In a separate development, the same day a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Algiers by Algeria’s Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohammed Arqab, and Bangladesh’s energy minister, Iqbal Hassan Mahmoud. The MoU covers the entire hydrocarbon value chain, from exploration and production to processing, storage, marketing and infrastructure investment. It also includes the supply of crude oil, refined products, LPG, LNG and urea fertiliser to Bangladesh.
The memorandum calls for the creation of a joint steering committee to prioritise projects, assess proposals and coordinate efforts between the two governments. It aims to translate the agreed areas of cooperation into tangible, economically valuable projects for both nations.
Both governments reiterated their commitment to advancing a sustainable, mutually beneficial partnership that leverages Algeria’s expertise and Bangladesh’s growing energy needs. The agreements underscore a shared vision of expanding trade and technical collaboration in the energy sector.
