President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressed participants at the opening ceremony of the 8th GECF Summit in Moscow on Tuesday, thanking Russian President Vladimir Putin for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the Algerian delegation.

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb read Tebboune’s message, in which the president recalled Algeria’s hosting of the 7th GECF Summit two years earlier and highlighted the Declaration of Algiers, underscoring gas’s strategic role in global energy security.

Tebboune announced that Algeria is handing the summit’s presidency to Russia and wished the country success in steering the forum, which this year marks the 25th anniversary of its creation and the establishment of the Institute for Gas Research.

He noted that current energy markets are at a decisive turning point, with gas showing resilience amid a complex environment that balances security, the climate transition, regulatory changes and geopolitical shifts.

Algeria has provided all necessary resources for the forum’s functioning and will continue to support the GECF’s work as the teams gather to discuss the sector’s future.
