On 20 October 2026, Minister of Commerce, Interior and National Market Regulation Amel Abdellatif convened a video‑conference with regional commerce directors and central ministry officials to discuss the rollout of a daily price‑and‑availability monitoring system across the country. The meeting followed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s cabinet directive issued on 18 October, which called for tighter market oversight and guaranteed access to essential goods at controlled prices.
During the session, the minister outlined the methodology for a decentralised monitoring network that will track prices, stock levels and supply conditions in real time. She urged the sector’s managers to reinforce control teams and increase on‑the‑ground inspections each day, ensuring that first‑necessity products remain available and that price hikes are promptly addressed. Coordination between the various market‑related departments was highlighted as a key element of the strategy.
In addition to the monitoring framework, Abdellatif announced the launch of a new digital platform for consumer reporting. The platform will be complemented by a mobile application, allowing citizens to flag price excesses, hygiene breaches or any other practices that could endanger their safety and health. Daily price bulletins will also be published to keep the public informed.
The initiative aims to strengthen market surveillance, enhance the responsiveness of control services and actively involve consumers in combating unfair commercial practices. By combining real‑time data collection with citizen‑led feedback, the government seeks to maintain market stability and protect consumer interests across Algeria.
The minister’s remarks underscored the importance of sustained engagement from all market‑sector services to ensure the effectiveness of the new system and to uphold the President’s commitment to fair pricing and product availability.
