Algeria oil product exports fall 3.9 percent despite spot market expansion
Algeria's petroleum product exports fell by 3.9 percent in the first nine months of 2026 to an average of 298,000 barrels per day, down from 310,000 barrels per day in the same period of 2025. The decline occurred despite the country expanding spot shipments to eight foreign markets to diversify its commercial routes.
The country shipped approximately 3.4 million barrels in spot cargoes between January and September. Oman was the largest recipient, taking 1.4 million barrels in September, representing roughly 41 percent of the total volume sent to the eight spot destinations. Indonesia followed with two shipments totalling 960,000 barrels delivered in April and August, marking its first delivery from Algeria since June 2022. The United States imported over 313,000 barrels in August, Bulgaria received more than 256,000 barrels in May, and Libya imported 251,000 barrels of petrol in April. Spot deliveries were also made to Taiwan, Egypt and Guinea.
South Korea remained Algeria's largest overall customer during the nine-month period, averaging 61,000 barrels per day compared to 86,000 barrels per day in 2025. The United States ranked second with an average of 58,000 barrels per day, followed by Japan at 28,000 barrels per day. Shipments to Belgium increased to 26,000 barrels per day, up from 22,000 barrels per day in 2025.
