Algeria Passes Law to Encourage Early Reporting of Knife Attacks

Algeria’s Ministry of Justice has approved new legislation that, in coordination with security agencies, aims to promote citizen crime reporting, particularly for white‑weapon assaults.

The law focuses on early reporting of knife and dagger attacks in neighbourhoods, seeking to stop small disputes from escalating into serious violence.

Authorities say the measure will help prevent minor incidents from turning into major criminal events by encouraging prompt community intervention.

Families, schools and mosques are urged to monitor youth and educate against violence, reinforcing the community‑based approach.

The Ministry of Justice spokesperson said, "New laws encourage citizens to report threats before they turn into crimes."
