Algeria added the ancient cities of Nadrouma, Bejaia and Mila to ALECSO’s Arab architectural heritage register, the Ministry of Culture and Arts announced on Monday.

The registration was confirmed at the 11th meeting of the ALECSO Observatory, held from 25 to 27 October 2026 at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Ministerial officials said the inclusion aims to preserve the sites, launch restoration programmes and boost cultural tourism across the country.

Ministry of Culture spokesperson said, "This registration reflects the active cultural diplomacy of Algeria in the Arab region".

The move follows Algeria’s broader push to showcase its historic heritage and attract visitors, with restoration plans to be developed in the coming months.
