Algeria's Non‑Oil Exports Near $4 billion in First Eight Months, Aim for $5 billion by Year‑end

Algeria's non‑hydrocarbon exports reached almost $4 billion during the first eight months of 2026, a rise of about 10 % compared with the same period in 2025, according to Zohir Moussaoui, central director at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. He told Radio Algeria's "L'Invité du matin" on Sunday that the growth reflects a broader rebound in the country's overseas sales and that maintaining this momentum is crucial for narrowing the trade deficit.

Moussaoui said the government expects total non‑oil exports to hit $5 billion by the end of 2026 if the current trend continues. He stressed that the objective is not merely to achieve high figures but to sustain export dynamism so that non‑hydrocarbon products can offset a significant share of imports.

The agro‑food sector contributed $213 million to the eight‑month total, marking a 15 % increase over the same period a year earlier. Moussaoui highlighted this sector during the opening of the Agro‑Industry Products Fair in Blida on Saturday, which was promoted under the slogan "Made in Algeria".

The fair, he explained, serves as a platform to showcase Algeria's production capacity, quality and product diversity, helping national firms gain visibility in foreign markets. Such exhibitions are seen as key tools for fostering cooperation between exporters, producers and consumers, and for encouraging Algerian companies to pursue overseas opportunities.

Moussaoui concluded that these initiatives form part of a broader strategy to strengthen economic sovereignty, improve the trade balance and enhance the competitiveness of Algerian goods on the global stage.
