· Source: Algeria Now

Algeria aims to deepen its pharmaceutical sovereignty and expand export markets, industry minister Wassim Kouidri said, after 2025 exports hit $52 million across 33 countries, including 18 in Africa.
Redha Belkacemi, a studies officer, highlighted the government's push to strengthen local production, noting the country now hosts over 230 manufacturing plants. Ongoing projects include a new paracetamol line, anticancer drug facilities, and Saidal Medéa’s antibiotic raw‑material plant.
To facilitate exporters, authorities have introduced customs, administrative and banking measures, while adapting registration procedures for export‑only drugs. A watch‑mechanism involving institutions and partners will monitor supply tensions.
Algeria is also seeking WHO maturity level 3 to enhance regulatory credibility, and plans to finalise its national essential medicines list before the end of 2026.
