Algerian Government Proposes New Integration‑Rate Formula for Vehicles and Phones
· Source: Algeria Now

The cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb on 21 October approved a proposal to overhaul integration‑rate calculations for light and heavy vehicles and mobile phones, aiming to gauge true local production rather than mere assembly.
The draft measure seeks to capture the proportion of components manufactured domestically, moving beyond the current focus on final‑product assembly. Officials say the change will help build a national industry, cut imports and boost technology transfer.
No timetable for adoption has been set, and the regulatory text that will detail how the new rates are to be applied is still pending. The government stresses that the initiative is intended to develop skills, expand the subcontracting network and strengthen the overall industrial base.
Further steps will depend on the completion of the pending regulations, after which the revised integration‑rate system could be implemented to support Algeria’s broader industrial policy.
