Algerian Media Regulator Hosts Niger Official to Share Disinformation Strategies

Ibrahim Manzo Diallo arrived in Algeria this week to study the country's media regulation framework, praising its decades‑long fight against disinformation.

During his visit, Diallo met Amar Bendjedda, the head of the National Agency for the Regulation of Audiovisual and Digital Media (ANIRAV), which welcomed the delegation and outlined regional regulatory challenges.

Diallo highlighted the growing threat of media manipulation in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, urging his home government to replicate Algeria's proven model. "Algeria is very experienced in media regulation, fighting disinformation for decades," he said.

Both leaders agreed to set up a joint action platform to coordinate efforts against false information and to explore expanding cooperation to other African states. "We agreed to coordinate and work together to face these challenges," Bendjedda added.

The meeting marks the first formal step towards a broader regional partnership on media oversight, with potential implications for how North and West African nations tackle digital misinformation.
