Algerian ministers, led by Sifi Ghrieb, reviewed a new integration‑rate calculation mechanism for light and heavy vehicles and mobile phones on 21 October.

The meeting examined a formula that would assess the proportion of locally produced components and operations, moving beyond a simple count of assembled units. It targets the automotive sector and the mobile‑phone industry, both seen as strategic for domestic manufacturing.

No adoption date was announced; the regulatory text that would embed the mechanism is still being drafted. Officials said the draft will be circulated to relevant ministries for comment before any formal decree.

The government said the scheme is intended to curb imports and foster a genuine national industry. It aims to promote technology transfer and create a network of subcontractors that can supply parts and services domestically.

Further steps include finalising the regulatory text and presenting it to the cabinet later this year. Once adopted, the mechanism is expected to guide future incentives and investment policies aimed at building Algeria’s industrial base.
