Parliamentary chambers will meet on Saturday to prepare an extraordinary joint session for Sunday, aimed at approving a defence ordinance linked to cooperation with Niger.

A Council of the Nation meeting is set for 10:00 on Saturday 24 October, followed by an evening session of the National Assembly. SMS invitations have been sent to members of both chambers, though the agenda remains undisclosed.

The purpose of the joint session scheduled for Sunday 25 October is to endorse a presidential ordinance on national defence. The text, approved under Article 37 of the organic law, will be voted on in full without debate or amendment, and will activate Article 91(2) of the 2020 Constitution, allowing the President to deploy the Algerian National People’s Army abroad with a two‑thirds majority in each chamber.

The move follows a recent visit by Nigerien Minister of State for Defence Salifou Mody, who met President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During the visit, Mody and ANP Chief of Staff Gen. Saïd Chanegriha signed a military cooperation protocol to strengthen strategic and security ties, secure shared borders, share counter‑terrorism expertise and boost Nigerien operational capacity.
