Algerian security forces seize millions of psychotropic tablets and curb cross‑border crime

The National Press Agency reported that on 21 October 2026, security operations across Algeria confiscated 2.13 million psychotropic tablets, the largest haul recorded in the latest crackdown.

The coordinated actions, carried out between 14 and 20 October, also intercepted 2.96 quintals of kif smuggled from Morocco and seized 1 kg of cocaine alongside over two million tablets, leading to 51 narcotrafficker arrests.

In the 6th Military Region, police recovered three sub‑machine guns, four ammunition magazines and 200 bullets, while a separate sweep seized three sub‑machine guns, two hunting rifles and 51,150 L of fuel, resulting in nine additional arrests.

Law‑enforcement agencies detained nine suspected terror supporters nationwide and 137 people linked to illegal gold mining in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Guezzam, confiscating 22 vehicles, 196 generators, 90 jackhammers and assorted ore‑mix equipment.

The Coast Guard also intercepted 231 migrants on homemade vessels, arresting 412 irregular migrants as part of the same operational period.
