Algerian Technicians Stabilise Niger Oil Well, Boost Bilateral Ties

Algerian Sonatrach technicians arrived at Niger's Goumeri W8 oil well on 14 October 2026 and within a short time neutralised operational risks, stabilising the well.

The team produced a detailed failure analysis and new safety protocols, then submitted an incident report to Niger's oil and environment ministers.

Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani hosted the Algerian delegation, thanking President Abdelmadjid Tebbouse for the swift response, stating, "We thank President Tebboune for the swift response and mobilisation of Algerian expertise".

The mission highlighted regional technical cooperation and is expected to reinforce ties between Niger and Algeria moving forward.
