Local elections scheduled for 28 November 2026 will see a 22.7% rise in Communal People’s Assemblies (APC) candidates, reaching 141,388 compared with 115,230 in 2021.
The number of candidates for Popular Wilaya Assemblies (APW) also grew, up 13.56% to 21,476 from 18,910 in the previous cycle, an increase of 2,566 individuals.
Among APC candidates, 48.48% hold university degrees – 78,959 people – and 54.02% are aged 40 or younger, amounting to 87,995 candidates; women represent 11.86% of the list, 19,327 individuals.
Only three APC lists out of 5,631 submissions (0.05%) were rejected for incomplete forms or missing signatures, while six APW lists were rejected from 434 submissions (1.38%) for the same reasons.
ANIE president Saâd Arous said the data recorded do not corroborate the allegations of candidate disengagement and affirmed the body’s neutrality, integrity, transparency and constitutional compliance, adding that legal recourse will be available for rejected lists.
Arous called for mass citizen participation in the upcoming elections, urging voters to turn out in large numbers when the polls open on 28 November.
