Egypt says it will only defend Saudi Arabia, not intervene in Yemen

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sissi announced on 21 October that Cairo will limit any military assistance to defending Saudi territory and will not launch attacks inside Yemen.

The statement follows Sissi's earlier request to parliament for permission to provide military support to Riyadh if the kingdom asks, but he stressed that any Egyptian action will stay within Arab borders and will not involve crossing into Yemeni territory.

Egypt maintains it is prepared to defend any Arab state that seeks its help, yet it insists its forces will not operate beyond Egyptian or other Arab frontiers.

Iranian‑backed negotiator Abbas Araghchi warned that the emergence of new actors in the Yemeni war could make a settlement more difficult, but he also said Cairo has sufficient experience to avoid becoming entangled and reiterated that Egypt will not enter Yemen or fight there.

The comments come as the ten‑year‑old Yemeni conflict between Houthi rebels and the Saudi‑led coalition continues, with the Houthis having seized parts of the Red Sea coast in September and stepped up attacks on Saudi soil.
