Date Festival Opens in Timimoun
The fifth edition of the Touber date festival opened in Timimoun on Wednesday evening, drawing a large audience of farmers, producers and economic operators.
Organized by the agricultural chamber of Timimoun wilaya, the week-long event aims to promote the date varieties of the Red Oasis and expand commercial outlets for dates and their derivatives.
The secretary general of the agricultural chamber, Yassine Karimi, said the festival provides a platform to discuss sector development, explore export prospects to neighbouring African countries, and share techniques to combat date palm diseases.
Speaking at the opening, the wali of Timimoun, Souna Benamar, encouraged participants to promote local products and increase producers' income, noting that the event coincides with the start of the Saharan tourist season and an international kite and hot-air balloon festival.
