Four Killed in Drone Strike on Chad‑Sudan Border at Bamina

Four people were killed on Monday when a drone struck a vehicle convoy at Bamina on the Chad‑Sudan border, the government delegate for Wadi‑Fira, M. Brahim Issa Galmaye, announced today. The attack also wounded fourteen others, who were taken to Tiné Djagarba district hospital for treatment.

The border region, which stretches over 1,400 km, remains porous despite Chad’s decision to close it in February after a series of armed incursions. Drone attacks have increasingly targeted vehicles attempting to move from Sudan into Chad, raising security concerns for both nations.

Chad’s closure of the frontier followed repeated violations, yet the area continues to be used by armed groups. In May 2026, a similar drone strike on Tiné killed at least fourteen people and was blamed on Sudanese paramilitaries, underscoring the persistent threat. The broader conflict in Sudan, which began in 2023 between the national army and the Rapid Support Forces (FSR), has spilled over into neighbouring states.

The United Nations has described the situation as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 200,000 deaths, 12 million people displaced and an estimated one million Sudanese refugees now in Chad. Authorities say they will reinforce border monitoring and coordinate with regional partners to prevent further attacks.
