The Polisario Front announced today it will sue the Spanish government to cancel Ryanair’s authorized flights linking Madrid, Lanzarote and Dakhla.

The declaration was made at a joint press conference before the Spanish Parliament in Madrid, where Abi Béchraï El‑Bachir, special adviser to the Sahrawi President on natural resources and legal affairs, outlined the case.

The Front lawyers, including Spanish attorney Jacinto Lara and Sahrawi counsel Esjaba Messaoud, will seek an immediate withdrawal of the flight permission, arguing that the authorization breaches international law that denies Morocco sovereignty over Western Sahara and forbids use of its airspace without Sahrawi consent.

The movement cited the 2018 EU Court of Justice ruling that the EU‑Morocco air agreement does not extend to Western Sahara airspace, a position repeatedly reaffirmed by the European Commission.

By filing the suit, the Front aims to raise European consumer awareness of what it describes as Moroccan propaganda portraying Dakhla as a Moroccan city, and to underscore its view that any air link between Europe and the occupied territory constitutes a serious violation of EU law and court decisions.
