GECF 8th Summit to Convene in Moscow on 25‑27 Oct

The 8th Summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will take place in Moscow from 25 to 27 October, the forum’s website announced on Thursday. The meeting will examine the global gas market’s current situation and future outlook, and will focus on joint initiatives in infrastructure, technology and investment.
The summit follows the 2024 event hosted by Algeria, which produced the "Algiers Declaration" aimed at strengthening dialogue between producers and consumers and promoting natural gas as a reliable energy source. The Moscow gathering will bring together GECF member states, observer countries, energy ministers, representatives of international organisations and major hydrocarbon firms, as well as industry experts.
Key topics include energy security, market evolution, LNG, petrochemicals, new technologies and the role of digital tools. Participants will also discuss training programmes, infrastructure cooperation and long‑term investment strategies to meet growing global demand.
A joint declaration is expected to be adopted, outlining concrete proposals such as targeted funding for new gas markets, the use of artificial intelligence to forecast demand and the launch of training initiatives, the Russian Ministry of Energy said. The declaration will reflect the collective positions of the 12 member states, which hold about 70 % of the world’s proven gas reserves, 38 % of global commercial production and 42 % of world exports, including 47 % of LNG exports, according to GECF data.
The forum also includes eight observer members – Senegal, Mauritania, Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique and Peru – who will attend the summit to observe discussions and potential future membership.
