Iran Sets Seven Preconditions for US Talks During Pakistani Military Chief's Tehran Visit
· Source: Algeria Now
Iran has outlined seven pre‑conditions that must be met before it will restore confidence and resume negotiations with the United States, officials said during a meeting with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir in Tehran. The conditions were presented by Mohsen Rezaï, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who stressed that no enriched nuclear material will leave the country and that any talks are contingent on Washington’s actions.
The Iranian parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, told Munir that Tehran has nothing new to add for Washington and that U.S. confidence can only be regained by satisfying the seven demands. Rezaï reiterated that Iran will not transfer any enriched uranium abroad, describing the material as a national asset intended for domestic use.
The list includes an end to all hostilities on every front, notably in Lebanon, the release of Iranian assets frozen overseas, the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, a halt to what Tehran calls American interference in its internal affairs, cessation of U.S. cooperation with Iranian opposition groups, and the termination of all American attacks on Iranian territory.
Pakistan is acting as a mediator in the stalled talks, having previously hosted discussions aimed at ending fighting and resolving outstanding issues such as the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme. The visit comes amid growing fears of renewed military clashes and a deadlock over reciprocal commitments.
