Jordan Declares Mourning After Church Attack Kills Seven

Jordan declared three days of national mourning on Friday, 23 October 2026, after a terrorist attack on a church funeral in Karak governorate left seven dead and 34 injured. The national flag was lowered across the country as a sign of respect.

The assault targeted mourners attending a funeral, striking the Karak public hospital where many victims were taken. The Jordanian Public Security Directorate confirmed the death toll and the number of injured.

King Abdullah II visited the hospitalized victims at Karak public hospital, offering condolences to the families of the dead and expressing the kingdom’s resolve to confront the act with severe sanctions. He warned that "Those who thought betrayal bullets could divide Jordanians failed against our firmness and unity".

The king stressed that betrayal cannot divide Jordanians and pledged that the government will respond firmly to the perpetrators. The period of mourning will see official ceremonies and continued support for the victims and their families.
