Leverkusen captain Tapsoba hails Algerian prodigy Ibrahim Maza as world‑class talent

Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-1 victory over FC Fribourg in the Bundesliga highlighted the impact of 20‑year‑old Algerian international Ibrahim Maza, who provided a decisive assist and was named man of the match. The young forward, a product of Hertha Berlin’s academy, displayed his technical flair with a corner‑flag dribble that saw him weave between two defenders before delivering the ball to Patrik Schick.

Edmond Tapsoba, the Burkinabè defender and Leverkusen captain, praised Maza after the game, saying he is not impressed by the youngster’s training performances because they are already at a very high level. ‘He is one of the best players in the Bundesliga, with incredible potential and all the qualities to become one of the best players in the world,’ Tapsova told reporters.

Tapsoba’s assessment carries weight, having worked alongside Maza daily in training. The Algerian midfielder has already recorded three goals and three assists in eight league appearances, placing him among the most promising talents in Germany’s top flight.

Leverkusen, who value Maza at around €50 million, are reportedly preparing a contract extension that could include a salary increase, aiming to retain the player whose potential has earned unanimous approval from his captain.
