Riyad Mahrez drawed significant attention during the Al Shamal versus Lusail match. The former international star, who wore the captain's armband for Al Shamal, has already made a substantial impact on local attendance figures.

Al Shamal hosted Qatar SC at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa stadium on the same day. The venue, which holds 10,000 spectators, saw all tickets sold out 24 hours before the fixture. Despite the high demand, the match was played at closed gates, meaning no further ticket sales were permitted once the inventory was exhausted.

This surge in interest contrasts sharply with the typically sparse crowds at other major clubs; for instance, Al Sadd and Al Rayyan usually see lower attendance. However, Al Sadd’s Jassim Bin Hamad stadium did sell out last week against Al Duhail, suggesting a growing appetite for top-flight football in the region.

Al Shamal’s home ground, Suhim Bin Hamad, is located in West Bay, approximately 50 km north of the city centre. The club’s recent match attracted many spectators despite not being a marquee fixture. Mahrez’s continued presence is expected to sustain these high attendance levels for the team in the coming weeks.
