Man Detained Over Death of Stray Dog in Oran Province

19 Oct 2026 · Source: Algeria Now

Police in Oran province announced the arrest of a man suspected of causing the death of a stray dog after he allegedly urged two trained dogs to attack it, according to a police statement released on Monday.

Investigators from the security service in the Aïn El‑Turck district identified the suspect after a video showing the incident circulated on social media, prompting public outrage over the graphic footage and the fact that the dog had three puppies left behind.

The man was taken to the local police headquarters where formal legal procedures are being completed in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office attached to the Aïn El‑Turck tribunal.

The three surviving puppies have been handed over to a local animal‑welfare association that works on environmental and animal protection matters.
