Minister Announces Feasibility Studies for Three New University Hospitals

Minister of Habitat, Urbanism and City Mohamed Tarek Belaribi said today that feasibility studies have begun for three new university hospitals (CHU) in the provinces of Sétif, Annaba and Béjaïa, as part of the 2027 public equipment programme.

The announcement was delivered to the finance and budget commission of the National People's Assembly. No financial envelope has been disclosed, but the projects will be funded from the Habitat department's equipment budget.

Each CHU will combine patient care, university training and clinical research, extending the state policy that already saw the health ministry launch pediatric oncology centres in Algiers, Tlemcen and Annaba for 2026.

The new facilities follow the President’s directive to establish an anti‑cancer centre in every province by 2035, although no timeline or capacity details have been released for the three sites.

Feasibility studies are a prerequisite to construction; the minister warned that several years are likely to pass before any of the hospitals become operational.
