Minister Announces Feasibility Studies for Three New University Hospitals

Minister of Habitat, Urbanism and City Mohamed Tarek Belaribi said today that feasibility studies have begun for new university hospitals (CHU) in the provinces of Sétif, Annaba and Béjaïa, part of the 2027 public equipment programme.

The announcement was made to the finance and budget commission of the National People’s Assembly. No financial envelope has been disclosed, but the projects will fall under the Habitat department’s equipment budget and align with the draft 2027 finance law.

The three sites were chosen because of their large populations and existing medical faculties. Each CHU will combine patient care, university training and clinical research, aiming to strengthen the national health network and improve hospital quality.

The studies are still in the preparatory phase; a feasibility study has not yet progressed to construction, and no schedule, capacity or specific specialties have been announced for any of the sites.

The initiative follows earlier oncology plans for Algiers, Tlemcen and Annaba and is intended to reduce patient transfers to the capital, though a construction start date remains undefined.
