Brahim Merad, Algeria's Minister of Interior and Local Communities, presented a 2027 sector budget to the National Assembly Finance Committee on 24 October, allocating 675.6 billion DA to local authorities – a rise of 16.6 billion DA (2.39%) over 2026.

The budget also earmarks 616.6 billion DA in programme authorisations and 623.3 billion DA in payment credits for national security, while the civil protection budget receives 132.86 billion DA in authorisations and 118.6 billion DA in credits.

Eleven newly created wilayas will benefit from additional funding: 2.75 billion DA in programme authorisations and 513 million DA in payment credits for local authority programmes, plus 839 million DA in authorisations and 280 million DA in credits for civil protection offices.

Merad said the increased resources will enable wali authorities to supervise all special programmes, not only complementary development projects, and stressed that stronger support for local authorities is vital for meeting citizens' daily needs and managing public equipment.

He added that accelerating digital transformation and modernising administration remain top priorities for the sector, aiming to improve service delivery across the country.
