The Ministry of National Education issued circular No. 522 on 24 October 2026, setting out the calendar and assessment framework for the 2026‑27 school year.
The circular confirms that primary‑cycle will receive descriptive qualitative assessments in their first year, with automatic promotion to the second year provided they attend regularly. Continuous assessment will continue through observation, written, artistic and practical outputs, and a single quarterly exam per subject will be held, except for music, arts and physical education which remain continuous.
English will be assessed in the first trimester of the third‑year primary class using descriptive qualitative appraisals, while French and Tamazight will be assessed similarly in the first trimester of the fourth‑year primary class. The method for calculating grades will stay the same as in the previous two years, and evaluation bulletins will be updated on the ministry’s digital platform, with directors receiving new bulletin templates for first‑year pupils.
In the middle cycle, each subject will have one written supervised test per trimester, scheduled during a dedicated week with no more than two tests per day. Tests will be graded collectively in class, and corrections will be completed at least one week before the quarterly exams. Teachers will record grades and qualitative comments in a continuous assessment register and share results with parents.
Quarterly exams must follow the official calendar, and parents will be notified in advance. All subjects’ exam papers will be standardized across schools, ensuring uniformity in assessment nationwide.
