The Ministry of Trade reminded fruit and vegetable market operators on Wednesday to display prices publicly, warning non‑compliance could lead to legal action, administrative closure and seizure of goods, under law n°04‑02 of 23 June 2004.
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired an interministerial meeting to integrate wholesale market agents into a daily price‑monitoring system, a step aligned with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s agenda to boost transparency and traceability from producer to consumer.
Hacène Menouar, president of Association El‑Aman, welcomed the reminder, urging strict enforcement of the price‑display law and recommending the use of information‑technology tools, mobile applications, market entrance displays and local radio for price updates every two to three days.
Menouar stressed that effective implementation and rigorous control mechanisms are essential to protect consumers, reinforcing the government’s push for clearer market information and accountability.
