Naftal and Stellantis Algeria Discuss Prospects for Joint Automotive Projects
· Source: Algeria Now
Naftal chief executive Djamel Chardoud met Stellantis Algeria head Rawi Baji on 19 October at the state oil group’s headquarters in Algiers. The two leaders described the talks as an initial contact aimed at identifying areas where the companies could cooperate to support the growth of Algeria’s automotive sector.
No formal agreement was signed and the joint statement remained deliberately vague, indicating that discussions are still at an early stage. Both parties highlighted the possibility of a win‑win framework that could lead to joint projects and shared benefits.
Chardoud called for the pooling of resources and tighter coordination between the two firms, arguing that such collaboration could positively influence the trajectory of the national car industry. He also referenced his earlier push for a Naftal digital platform for tyre sales, intended to curb parallel markets.
Baji, who already oversees Stellantis’ Algerian operations, noted the company’s ongoing dialogue with authorities on training programmes for automotive manufacturing, a strategic effort to supply factories with skilled labour. He praised Naftal’s reliability and expertise in petroleum product distribution as assets for future cooperation.
The meeting forms part of Naftal’s broader strategy to expand partnerships across the economy, aiming to boost domestic production capacity, increase local content rates and contribute to the development of Algeria’s industrial base.
