Over 300 Zionist Settler Attacks Target Palestinian Farmers Amid Olive Harvest
· Source: Algeria Now
More than 300 attacks by Zionist settlers on Palestinian farmers have been recorded since early October, averaging fifteen incidents per day, officials said on Wednesday.
The violence has intensified during the olive harvest, a period that coincides with the upcoming Zionist legislative elections, raising concerns about the impact on the agricultural sector.
On 20 October, Bernard Baudoux, a 78‑year‑old French mayor and member of a European diplomatic delegation, was beaten by settlers in the village of Taybeh near Ramallah.
The Taybeh assault followed a separate attack in Abu Falah, where around eighty masked, armed settlers assaulted olive pickers; Washington Post journalist Heidi Levine, 63, was beaten for more than ten minutes, suffered broken ribs, required hand surgery and had her camera, phone and passport stolen.
The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture estimates the week of 8‑15 October saw $1.9 million in damage, with 3,522 fruit trees – including 2,667 olive trees – cut, uprooted, burned or otherwise destroyed, and 8,612 kg of olives stolen.
By contrast, the previous week (1‑8 October) recorded $3.678 million in direct losses and damage to 3,192 olive trees across seven governorates, underscoring the escalating economic toll on Palestinian farmers.
