Paris Police Impose Curfew in Central Districts After Weekend Violence
· Source: Algeria Now
French authorities have introduced a curfew in specific areas of Paris, running from 23:00 on Monday to 06:00 on Tuesday (21:00 to 04:00 GMT). The measure follows a wave of violence and looting that hit several parts of the capital over the weekend.
The curfew strictly bans any presence in the vicinity of Place de la République and the Halles district, both located in central Paris. Police prefecture statements said the restrictions are essential to restore public order after a minority of offenders severely disrupted safety.
Paris police prefect Patrick Faure issued multiple orders, including a ban on demonstrations from 20:00 on Monday until 06:00 on Tuesday in certain neighbourhoods, and the curfew in the more limited zones, starting at 23:00 on Monday.
The prefecture highlighted that the security of all residents necessitates these actions, aiming to re‑establish peace in the city after the recent disturbances.
