Prime Minister Ghrieb meets fruit market leaders to launch daily price monitoring

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb met mandataires of wholesale fruit and vegetable markets on 20 October 2026 to discuss a new daily price monitoring system for essential products. The meeting formed part of an inter‑ministerial council set up after the President ordered immediate measures on 18 October 2026 to track prices and availability nationwide.

The system will cover prices and stock levels of essential goods across the country, aiming to keep them affordable for consumers. Mandataires, who sell produce to wholesalers and then to retailers, are central to the price chain and their participation is deemed crucial for the system’s effectiveness.

Attendees included the relevant ministers, the president of the National Agriculture Chamber and the president of UGCAA, alongside the market mandataires. Prime Minister Ghrieb said: "The new daily monitoring system will help keep essential products affordable".

The council will continue to refine the monitoring framework, with further steps scheduled for the coming weeks to ensure the system is operational nationwide.
