Public Service Authorises Vacant Health Contracts for 2026 Budget
· Source: Algeria Now

The General Directorate of Public Service has authorised the use of vacant contractual health posts for the 2026 budget, creating exceptional, full‑time, indefinite contracts.
The move follows a request from the Ministry of Health and is intended to urgently reinforce human resources in health facilities across the country.
The approval is pending an amendment to inter‑ministerial decree No 26 December 2019, which governs staffing, classification and contract duration for security, maintenance, services in central administration, decentralised services, public health establishments and paramedical training institutions.
A correspondence dated 22 October 2026 (ref no 12337) to the Health Minister confirms a prior meeting on 7 May 2025 that reviewed a draft amendment of the 8 January 2015 decree.
The review was postponed until the commission receives detailed budgetary staff evolution data for 2022‑present, broken down by establishment and contract type, together with the 2025 “B” status document and a revised draft reflecting the meeting’s comments.
The Directorate urged the Health Ministry to accelerate the amendment process for staffing updates covering 2026‑2027, noting that the eventual decree amendment will update contractual staff numbers according to the budgetary post nomenclature, subject to approval by competent budget control services.
No specific date has been set for the release of the amendment; the process remains ongoing.
