Riyad King Khalid Airport Reopens After Two‑Week Closure Amid Houthi Attacks

The Riyad King Khalid airport reopened on Sunday, ending a two‑week shutdown caused by Houthi missile and drone attacks that killed 13 people and injured hundreds.

Saudi coalition forces shot down one ballistic missile and two drones that were targeting the airport, while civil defence reported two casualties in the south from falling debris and damage to several buildings. The Houthi movement warned the aviation sector against using the airport as a military target.

Flights have now resumed to Dubai, Paris, Cairo and several domestic destinations, but Flightradar24 notes that only a few departures are operating, and most routes remain cancelled. Saudi spokesperson Yahya Saree warned, "If the airport resumes operations, the Saudi regime will bear the consequences," echoing the regime’s own caution over further attacks.

The October strike on the airport was the deadliest of the month, with 13 fatalities and hundreds injured. In retaliation, the Houthis claimed 17 deaths in Saudi strikes on Sanaa, a claim that Saudi officials have not commented on.

Separately, organizers of the Dakar 2027 rally said the race will not be held in Saudi Arabia if the security situation persists, and a new venue is being sought. The Saudi investment forum, originally slated for 2026, has been postponed to 2027 following the renewed conflict in July.
