The second meeting of the border regions development commission committee began on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, in El Oued, Algeria, marking a new step in bilateral cooperation with Tunisia.
The gathering is part of the Algeria‑Tunisia bilateral cooperation framework and brings together governors from six Algerian provinces – El Oued, Ouargla, Tébessa, Bir El Ater, Souk Ahras and El Tarf – alongside their Tunisian counterparts from Tozeur, Gafsa, Le Kef, Kasserine, Jendouba, Kébili and Tataouine, as well as ministry representatives.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Tunisian President Kais Saïed have both expressed a joint commitment to strengthen development in the border regions, underscoring the political will behind the commission's work.
The committee will discuss projects aimed at improving infrastructure, trade and social services across the shared frontier, with outcomes expected to feed into future joint initiatives.
The meeting concludes with a plan to convene a third session later this year, pending further coordination between the two governments.
