Four state-owned firms have begun allocating land in Ghardaïa and El Menia wilayas for camps, facilities and warehouses linked to the Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Menia railway line, a project aimed at ending southern isolation and spurring economic activity.
In El Menia, intensive field preparations are under way; workers' camps are being set up and heavy equipment moved under the supervision of the four companies involved.
Ghardaïa wilaya is also allocating real‑estate parcels to the same firms, ensuring both regions have the necessary infrastructure for the railway's construction.
The partnership comprises the Cosider public group, the National Railway Works Institution, the Public Institution for Public Works (infrastructure and leveling), the National Institution for Major Technical Installations and another public infrastructure company.
When completed, the Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Meniaa line will transport passengers, goods, agricultural and mining products, linking remote wilayas to national markets.
