Ten Hackers Arrested in Constantine for TV App Money‑Laundering Scheme

The cybercrime unit of the Constantine provincial police has dismantled a criminal network of ten individuals accused of unlicensed money‑transfer services, cryptocurrency trading, hacking and money‑laundering, according to a police statement.

Investigators began the operation after receiving tips about a group that was hijacking mobile phones through malicious software embedded in television‑streaming applications. The malware allowed the perpetrators to remotely control victims' devices and steal banking details.

Stolen funds were moved to several postal checking accounts (CCP) before being washed, converted into cryptocurrencies and funneled into illegal gambling and lottery schemes that the gang actively promoted.

During raids, authorities seized laptops, high‑end smartphones, victims' bank cards, cash amounting to 1 012 720 Algerian dinars and cryptocurrency worth 5 112.68 USDT (about 128 806.36 dinars). They also recovered evidence of 236 287.68 USDT (approximately 59 544 495 dinars) transferred among the suspects over three months, plus a further 41 050 729 dinars moved directly through postal accounts.

In addition to the financial assets, police confiscated a luxury vehicle suspected of being bought with illicit proceeds and several prohibited bladed weapons. The ten suspects have been transferred to the central police headquarters for further judicial processing.
