Third Algerian ''Blouza'' Festival Highlights Regional Costumes

The third edition of the Algerian Blouza festival took place on Friday evening, 23 October, in Mediatak, Oran.

Organised by the Hilm al-Shabab association, the event displayed traditional clothing from Oran, Tlemcen, Miliana and Mostaganem, alongside other regional costumes. Tlemcen presented seven to eight variants, while Miliana and Mostaganem each showcased unique designs.

Bouchra Salhi, director of culture and arts for Oran, said the festival was "a cultural and artistic canvas uniting material and immaterial heritage" and expressed satisfaction with the programme.

The Ministry of Culture and Arts, under Minister Moulika Ben Doudah, is working to register the Oran blouza with UNESCO, reflecting the festival’s emphasis on collective responsibility of locals, heritage NGOs and youth in preserving clothing heritage.

Future editions are expected to continue promoting regional textile traditions and support the UNESCO registration effort.
