Algerian police in Algiers have arrested two senior officials of a tourism agency accused of defrauding 64 individuals out of a total of 113.65 million dinars (approximately 11.3 billion centimes). The suspects allegedly promised counterfeit "facilitation" visas for the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages in exchange for large payments.
The investigation was carried out by the major crimes brigade of the El Biar judicial police, following a series of complaints filed by victims who claimed they had been misled by the agency. Coordinating with the territorial public prosecutor, investigators traced and detained the two men after locating them in the capital.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), the fraud involved collecting substantial sums from clients who were seeking guaranteed visas to Mecca. The total amount reported by victims amounts to 11 billion 365 million centimes, equivalent to 113.65 million Algerian dinars.
The suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the Bir Mourad Raïs tribunal after a judicial dossier was compiled, and the case is now proceeding through the courts.
