US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack warned on Saturday that a US strike against Iran could happen by the end of the current week, heightening regional tensions ahead of the 3 November midterm elections.

Iranian officials have said they can easily reach and destroy undersea telecommunications cables in the Gulf, and Tehran could block repairs to extend any communication outages. The plan, according to Iranian sources, would target cables if a US or "Zionist entity" attacks them.

US media report that the Trump administration is weighing military strikes on Iran after the upcoming midterms. The Atlantic cited President Donald Trump as planning multi‑day strikes once the elections are over.

Trump has called Iran a "failed state" and asserted that the US Navy has effectively blockaded the country. He added, "We can control the Strait of Hormuz and take control of all Iranian oil," claiming oil flows through the strait have already exceeded pre‑conflict levels.

If US forces move, Tehran could respond by preventing cable repairs, prolonging outages and potentially disrupting regional communications. Both sides appear to be preparing for escalation, with the next few days critical for diplomatic and military calculations.
