Vox Group Proposes Moving Algerian Consulate in Alicante Ahead of Thursday Vote
· Source: Algeria Now
Vox municipal deputies will vote on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, on a proposal to shift the Algerian consulate from Pintor Velázquez street to premises at the nearby maritime port.
The motion, signed by Vox deputy spokesperson Mario Ortolá, argues that the current location forces residents to cross a busy street and has generated ongoing neighbourhood complaints, even though no specific incident has been recorded.
Vox says the relocation would streamline consular services for travellers heading to Algeria and ease residential congestion, noting that queues have fallen since the end of Spain's regularization operation.
Neighbouring associations and merchants have previously lodged complaints with the District 1 Committee, but police have not supplied data to substantiate alleged disturbances.
The municipality acknowledges it lacks the authority to compel a foreign diplomatic mission to move, and plans to forward the concerns to the port authority and the consulate through a local intermediary.
